Just in time for the holidays, Snapchat has unwrapped its “Winter Village,” an augmented reality experience that brings luxury shopping into the app for users across several regions including the U.S., U.K., and France. Running through December, the activation puts three upscale brands—Chopard, Lancôme, and BOSS—front and center in immersive, branded AR spaces. Accessible via the Lens carousel, each brand has reimagined their identity into animated environments designed to mimic the atmosphere of a chic holiday boutique.
Each brand takes a distinctive tack: Chopard’s Lens recreates a dreamy, ivory-toned shop with interactive jewelry and watch displays that tell product stories; Lancôme rolls out a glowing, fantasy train ride across snow-covered mountains, spotlighting its fragrances with narrative-rich AR overlays; and BOSS offers a tour of its “Augmented Factory,” complete with conveyor belts and teddy bears, courtesy of its collab with Steiff. It’s a curated AR mall that prioritizes premium storytelling over quantity—an approach that may sacrifice scale but sets a polished tone.
While the activation is limited to three brands, it’s a tight proof of concept for how high-end retail can blend emotion, branding, and e-commerce in-app. With Snapchat’s AR tools doing most of the heavy lifting, it hints at a future where shopping is less scrolling, more strolling through virtual spaces. It’s not the department store of the metaverse—yet—but it’s a glossy step in that direction.
