Just in time for holiday gustatory adventures, PepsiCo is cracking open the can on its new prebiotic cola. Following its acquisition of Poppi earlier this year, Pepsi is bringing functional fizz to the masses with a limited release of Pepsi Prebiotic Cola in Original and Cherry Vanilla. Each can clocks in at five grams of sugar and three grams of fiber, sidestepping artificial sweeteners while keeping its classic taste. The short-run drop is available in 8-packs from Amazon, Walmart.com, TikTok, and a handful of other digital-first retailers, ahead of a full-scale brick-and-mortar rollout in early 2026.
To sweeten the debut, Pepsi is folding the launch into Amazon Prime’s Black Friday NFL broadcast, with a national, in-game shoppable ad. Fans watching the Eagles face off against the Bears won’t have to lift anything heavier than a remote to snag a pack—they can buy directly through the ad. It’s snappy activation meets functional beverage, with Pepsi testing how live sports and impulse buys mesh in a fiber-forward future.
Executives at PepsiCo are transparent about why this is happening now: legacy brands need fresh tricks, and wellness-oriented colas are scaling fast. Rather than build from scratch, they tapped Poppi’s existing foundation and plugged in a Pepsi twist. CEO Ramon Laguarta framed the move as part of a dual strategy—refresh big brands internally while acquiring credible players in high-growth niches. Functional soda is having its moment, and Pepsi clearly wants a (prebiotic) slice.
