Google’s latest ad stars a plush turkey fleeing Thanksgiving via Google Search’s AI Mode—and notably, the entire spot was built using generative AI. Created with Google’s in-house Veo 3 video model, “Quick Getaway” follows Tom, the stuffed bird, as he ditches turkey season for a spontaneous holiday. The prompt? “I need to go somewhere with direct flights and NO Thanksgiving… leaving tomorrow.” What follows is a flight from a farm to a poolside escape, rendered in fiber-perfect detail without a single human actor filmed.
The ad is part of the broader “Just Ask Google” campaign and is already airing on TV, with digital and theatrical placements rolling out next. And while the spot skips any on-screen on AI disclaimers, Google’s YouTube upload quietly tags it as “Altered or synthetic content.” The decision, according to Google, leans on consumer indifference around how ads are made—as long as they resonate. (Spoiler: a turkey fleeing Thanksgiving is, by most accounts, relatable content.)
Crafted by the internal Google Creative Lab, the concept was originally developed by the brand’s marketing team before evolving into an AI-only production. The Wall Street Journal notes that while Veo has previously been used to prototype ads with digital humans, this is the first AI-generated piece Google has sent into official rotation—just in time for Halloween and ahead of a planned Christmas follow-up. Tom may not speak, but his AI-made escape is doing a lot of talking.
