Corona Cero had just three weeks to craft a global Olympic campaign—and decided that traditional tear-jerkers about sacrifice and national pride weren’t going to cut it. As the first-ever worldwide beer sponsor of the Games, the nonalcoholic brand leaned into its laid-back DNA, using AI to uncover emotional insights that felt distinctly more beach than podium. Working with Brand Genetics and Grey, the team avoided the usual athlete-montage script, instead drawing creative inspiration from shared, celebratory moments. The result: a 30-second ad comparing Olympic glory to catching a perfect wave or squeezing a lime into a cold bottle.
The strategy wasn’t just vibes—it was data-backed. AI tools sifted through emotional reactions to past Olympic ads, mapping consumer behavior with Brand Genetics’ “DNA” framework to highlight three shared desires: esteem, communal wins, and belonging. Out of four creative options, the machine picked “Golden Moments” as the best emotional fit—and traditional focus groups gave it the thumbs-up too. With a smart combo of artificial intelligence and good old human storytelling, the campaign achieved a whopping 440% growth in volume, officially making Corona Cero the fastest-growing brand in AB InBev’s stable.
Given those results, the brand didn’t mess with success. A refreshed Winter Olympics version of “Golden Moments” is already rolling out across 25+ markets, featuring Olympic athletes alongside ordinary folks having their own mini-wins. Dynamic out-of-home creative, sampling activations, and a push into experiential marketing are all on the table. And with nonalcoholic beer now AB InBev’s breakout category—growing 27% in Q3—the brewer is banking on Corona Cero’s anytime-anywhere positioning to reach drinkers beyond happy hour.
