Copilot, Who Scored the Fastest Goal Ever?

The Premier League just kicked off a five-year collaboration with Microsoft, aiming to give fans smarter, faster, and deeper ways to follow the beautiful game—without needing to memorize 30 years of match stats. At the heart of the deal is the Premier League Companion, an AI-powered sidekick built into the league’s app and website. Backed by Microsoft’s Azure AI and Copilot, the feature taps into an archive of 300,000 articles, 9,000 videos, and decades of data—making it easier than ever to answer life’s big questions, like which club had the most dramatic relegation escape.

But it’s not just about stats. With over 1.8 billion global fans, the league’s digital revamp is designed to scale and personalize content for everyone—from die-hard Liverpool supporters to newcomers still Googling “Offside rule explained.” The Companion’s architecture enables natural language queries (“Best five goals of all time?”) and delivers contextual answers, complete with videos and team-specific content. Even Fantasy Premier League managers can expect smarter season support.

Meanwhile, behind the screen, the Premier League is moving its entire tech operation over to Microsoft’s cloud ecosystem. This includes adopting Microsoft 365 tools for internal workflows and using Azure to digitize its decades-spanning archive—supporting both fan engagement and international broadcast partners. As the platform evolves, expect features like real-time translations and audio match summaries, all aimed at making matchday feel bigger, better, and data-rich—whether you’re up late in Chicago or early in Azerbaijan.
